Sony Introduces Extended Life SSDs, Designed with 4K Recording in Mind

Sony Professional SSD

Sony have introduced 2 new G Series Professional Solid State Drives (SSD). The new drives come in 960GB (SV-GS96) and 480GB (SV-GS48) capacities and have been designed to satisfy the growing needs of the high-performance recording market. These new drives aim to deliver better performance and longer lifetime.

Utilising Sony’s Error Correction Code technology, these new drives are expected to be equivalent in quality with their Professional Media products. The G Series SSDs are also durable, capable of achieving up to 2400 terabytes written on the 960GB model and 1200 on the 460GB. If you were to use the 960GB drive, this would equate to completely filling the drive around 5 times a week for 10 years. Sony hopes that the extended life and underlying technology makes it a solid choice for pros looking for new media in their video recorders.

Similarly, the high performance write cycles make these SSDs perfect for high bitrate 4K video recording. With the appropriate cable, the drives can be easily connected to a computer and media downloaded at speeds of up to 550MB/s.

Availability of the Sony G Series SSDs will be sometime after May 2017 from your local Sony dealer.
